About the Artist:
Michael Nelson is a founding partner of Nelson and Sixta. It was formed in 1979 as a graphic design, photography, video production, and fine art partnership. The firm provided creative services for a wide-ranging client base. They have produced more than 350 presentations from high-definition video to 15-projector multi-image wide-screen productions. They have created the visual and stage presentations for more than 80 events including: Calibre Awards, Hospitality Design Awards, LULU Awards and Corenet Global Executive of the Year Dinners. They have produced and designed visual presentations for several theatrical shows including the musical Mail, at the Pasadena Playhouse, the Kennedy Center and the Music Box Theatre (Broadway).
But they became most known for their work on behalf of the commercial real estate industry; working on some of the most important developments on the West Coast including Wilshire Grand Center, Queensway Bay, Queen Mary Island, Landmark Square, Figueroa at Wilshire, 444 Flower and The Broad Museum. For The Broad, they interviewed a variety of artists collected by Eli Broad... Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Kara Walker, Mark Bradford and Cindy Sherman to name-drop a few. Together they have produced three photography books, one on their fine art, one on their architectural images and one on the construction of the Broad Museum. Through his own publishing company, nXtwo Press, Michael Nelson has produced nine fine art photography books.
Michael Nelson holds a B.A. in Studio Art and an M.A. in Painting/Photography from Western Illinois University, where he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant. He has post-graduate work at UCLA and Art Center for Design.
Michael has taken graduate independent study classes with Garry Winogrand, Eileen Cowin and Kendra North.
He is a Vietnam Veteran stationed at Dong Ha and Marble Mountain in 1971.
